The Performance Training Pyramid

November 22, 2008 | by Darin Yap · 1 Comment

Our training methodology consists of three main sections, Joint Stability/Mobility, Strength, and Power. Each section has multiple phases and progressions. It is similar to a pyramid as you must first start with a solid foundation, Joint Stability/Mobility. The Strength section is then built upon this base and then finally Power can be developed.

One of the faults of traditional training programs was that they ignored the Joint Stability/Mobility aspect of training. Traditional or “Old School” strength coaches like to see heavy weights being lifted and take pride in developing massive muscles. [CONTINUE READING THIS POST..]

Billy Stutzmann enrolls early

November 22, 2008 | by Brian Hamasaki · No Comments

In July, Billy Ray Stutzmann made a verbal commitment to play football for the University of Hawaii. This week Billy announced that he will honor that commitment and also finish high school early to enroll at UH in January 2009. That’s right, Billy will start college early! How many kids do you know are willing to finish high school early so they can move on to college? Not many. Billy decided to take the opportunity to participate in spring training to get ahead for next season.

Billy had the opportunity to attend several mainland schools, but decided that UH was the best fit for him. A big part of his decision to attend UH was that he could play in front of his friends and family.

Though he was not able to fulfill his goal of bringing home the state championship crown to St. Louis, Billy had a very productive senior season. He finished as one of the top offensive players in Division I in receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

As UH football fans, we look forward to seeing Billy in the coming years. It’s been a pleasure for Tactical Strength & Conditioning to work with such a talented and dedicated athlete. Congratulations and best of luck.

Here’s a video of Billy and his dad, Bill, on their experience with Tactical.

If you haven’t heard of Jaimie Kinard, she is one active girl that loves to paddle and surf. In September, Jaimie and Jessie Eames began their Na Leo Hoe Wa’a blog on the Honolulu Advertiser. Jaimie just wrote a post, Tactical Cross-Training, about Tactical Strength & Conditioning. If you haven’t read their blog yet, go check it out. They give you the insight into what’s going on in the paddling community; what it’s like to be a paddler, equipment 101, upcoming races, and a lot more. Thanks for the love Jaimie.

On Saturday I gave a presentation, “Performance Training for Athletes”, at the ChiroPlan Hawaii 2008 conference at Turtle Bay Resort. Tactical was invited by Dr. Don Harada to give a presentation to about sixty local chiropractors who would be in attendance. A much-appreciated thank you to Dr. Don for his very welcoming introduction to Tactical. Dr. Don had previously heard about Tactical from our presentation at the 2006 conference and since then has taken part in a training program.

The two-hour presentation covered our company history and explained the process of designing and implementing a performance training program. [CONTINUE READING THIS POST..]
