Tactical Strength at ChiroPlan Hawaii 2008 Conference

November 19, 2008 | by Darin Yap

On Saturday I gave a presentation, “Performance Training for Athletes”, at the ChiroPlan Hawaii 2008 conference at Turtle Bay Resort. Tactical was invited by Dr. Don Harada to give a presentation to about sixty local chiropractors who would be in attendance. A much-appreciated thank you to Dr. Don for his very welcoming introduction to Tactical. Dr. Don had previously heard about Tactical from our presentation at the 2006 conference and since then has taken part in a training program.

The two-hour presentation covered our company history and explained the process of designing and implementing a performance training program. I started out by asking if anyone had heard of the term, performance training. There were a handful of hands that went up. I thought a little more hands would have gone up, but that just means we need to get the word out more about what we do. Knowing this information was good though as it let me know the audience’s familiarity with the topic so I could adjust things as needed with the presentation. A key area that I covered was the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). The FMS is a critical component of our assessment as it allows us to address many different areas that impact training; muscular imbalances, inefficient movement patterns, joint dysfunctions, postural stability and flexibility.

After the presentation, the chiropractors got some hands-on experience as they participated in an actual Tactical workout. Having such a large group, it was good to have Coach Barry Toyama there to ensure that the exercises were performed properly. One of the common comments by the participants was that their glutes were burning! The tube walk will definitely do that to you, but that’s what we want during the activation phase; to get the body ready for training. For those that have not gone through a Tactical training program, it can be an eye-opening experience. I hope everyone got a good workout.

Overall, I think it was a great opportunity for our company to be a part of the conference and to share what we do with other healthcare professionals. We appreciate all of the feedback we received. Thanks again to ChiroPlan Hawaii for including us in an awesome weekend! For the conference participants, here are some links to more information on the topics covered:
