Punahou Girls Basketball place third at states

Junior forward Julia Brand helped Punahou take third place in the 2010 HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships. Punahou capture the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Girls Basketball title in a 47-36 win over Iolani.

Kendra Rask anchors 400 yard freestyle relay team to 2nd place

Junior Kendra Rask was a member of Punahou’s second place team at the 2010 HHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships.  In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Kendra swam the anchor leg as Punahou placed second in the event.

At the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Championships, the Punahou Girls won the league title.  Kendra placed fifth in both the 200 Yard Freestyle and 500 Yard Freestyle.

Julia Brand helps Punahou to Cross Country State Title

Punahou junior Julia Brand helped lead her cross country team to their fifth straight title at the 2009 HHSAA Girls Cross Country State Championships by finishing 13th place overall. She placed fourth at the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Championships with Punahou winning the league title.

All-Star Girls Volleyball Selections

Sarah Palmer established herself as the best volleyball player in the state during the 2009 season. She was named the Gatorade Hawaii Volleyball Player of the Year for the second year in a row, led Hawaii Baptist Academy to their third consecutive Division II state championship title, was a three-time Division II state tournament Most Outstanding Player, and was voted Player of the Year by the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Next season, Sarah will play for the University of Texas.

Juliana Behrens and Malia Patterson helped lead Punahou to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship title and a second place finish at the 2009 HHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships. Both were named to the Honolulu Advertiser All-State first team, Honolulu Star-Bulletin All-State Fab 15 team, and Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I first team. Next season, Juliana will play for the University of Cincinnati and Malia will play for the University of Texas-El Paso.

Malie Yoon helped lead Iolani to a third place finish in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. Malie will walk-on at the University of Pittsburgh.

Kalei Hanawahine and Keanu Carmichael, Baseball All-State First Team

Kamehameha senior Kalei Hanawahine and junior Keanu Carmichael were named to the Honolulu Advertiser All-State first team.  Both were also named to the ILH first team.

Hanawahine made the team as an outfielder, hitting .397 with three home runs and 18 RBIs.  He will be playing ball at the University of San Diego next season.

Carmichael was named as a catcher, hitting .410 with four home runs and 20 RBIs.

Other players named to all-star teams:

Punahou junior designated hitter Alaka’i Aglipay was named an ILH honorable mention and All-State second team.

Kamehameha senior outfielder Arlie Johnson was named to the ILH second team and All-State honorable mention.

Kamehameha junior outfielder Jacob Meyer was named an ILH honorable mention and All-State honorable mention.  Meyer was also named to the Division I all-tournament team for the state championships.

Kamehameha senior second baseman Makana Ramie was named to the ILH second team.
