Rylan Lizares, owner and founder of Gracie Technics Academy, recently competed in and won two events. On April 11, 2009, Rylan won his division at the Hawaiian Championships of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and on April 18, 2009, he won a professional submission grappling match at the inaugural Kingdom MMA event.
In the Hawaiian Championships, Rylan competed in the Men’s Gi Black Belt Superfight division against Jair Muniz and won by arm bar submission.
Rylan was a late addition to the Kingdom MMA card that headlined Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Kala “Kolohe” Hose. Rylan is touted as Hawaii’s #1 grappler and faced UFC, KOTC, Super Brawl and Rumble on the Rock veteran Ronald “The Machine Gun” Jhun in a professional submission grappling match. The match was scheduled for one 5 minute round with no judges and the only way to win was by submission. Rylan submitted his opponent via ankle lock at 4:01.

Dustin Kimura wins MMA: Destiny 145lb title
February 25, 2009 | by Brian Hamasaki · No Comments
Dustin Kimura, 19 years old, won the amateur 145lb title at the mixed martials arts event, Destiny: The 2nd Coming, on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Filcom Center in Waipahu. In the second round, Dustin dropped his opponent with a right hand strike and used a rear naked choke submission to earn his win and the title.
Dustin began training at Tactical Strength at the recommendation of his Jiu-Jitsu coach, Rylan Lizares, of Gracie Technics Academy. Coach Darin put Dustin through six weeks of grueling circuits to simulate an entire MMA fight. In the first week of training, Dustin could not finish his training circuit without throwing up. By week six, Dustin had cut his rest periods between circuits from 2 minutes to 30 seconds and completed the entire training session with a 20lb vest on. Dustin said that, “I definitely feel that since training at Tactical, my game has gone to another level.”
Congratulations Dustin! All of your hard work and dedication paid off! We look forward to more impressive victories in the future.
Update: Here’s a video of the fight, Dustin Kimura vs. Vernon Perengit. Dustin is in the black and white shorts.
Gracie Technics Academy
I would like to send out a huge mahalo to Rylan Lizares and his boys at Gracie Technics Academy.
Rylan is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Pedro Sauer and the owner/founder of Gracie Technics Academy. Rylan trains at Tactical Strength and he invited me to his “open mat” session on Thursday night at his new location above OTM Fight Shop on South Beretania Street. I was pretty excited to experience my first jiu-jitsu class and the guys at Gracie Technics did not disappoint. [CONTINUE READING THIS POST..]
