All-Star Girls Volleyball Selections

Sarah Palmer established herself as the best volleyball player in the state during the 2009 season. She was named the Gatorade Hawaii Volleyball Player of the Year for the second year in a row, led Hawaii Baptist Academy to their third consecutive Division II state championship title, was a three-time Division II state tournament Most Outstanding Player, and was voted Player of the Year by the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star-Bulletin. Next season, Sarah will play for the University of Texas.
Juliana Behrens and Malia Patterson helped lead Punahou to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship title and a second place finish at the 2009 HHSAA Girls Volleyball State Championships. Both were named to the Honolulu Advertiser All-State first team, Honolulu Star-Bulletin All-State Fab 15 team, and Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I first team. Next season, Juliana will play for the University of Cincinnati and Malia will play for the University of Texas-El Paso.
Malie Yoon helped lead Iolani to a third place finish in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu. Malie will walk-on at the University of Pittsburgh.

How performance training helps 37-year-old in sports and work

Sports have always been a part of Josh Anderson’s life. Growing up he was active in basketball, baseball, football and track. Today, the 37-year-old plays basketball and softball twice a week each along with volleyball. But injuries, knee and back pain, and age have slowly been catching up to him and he started to realize that he needed to get in better shape in order to stay competitive. Looking for a change and a competitive edge, Josh began training at Tactical Strength & Conditioning. “I’m getting older and I’m starting to get injured more often so I’m trying to relieve my injuries and get a little better performance.”
Initially, we conducted an assessment to determine how his body moves and identify any problem areas. Based on the assessment and Josh’s goals, we developed a training program to improve his movement efficiency. One of the primary components of his training program has been to focus on developing a solid foundation, joint stability and mobility. Only after a solid foundation has been established, can an athlete truly develop strength and power safely and effectively. We worked on his joint stability and mobility through core training and a lot of stretching. Initially, Josh felt a little out of his element as the exercises were a lot different than what he remembers doing back in college when he was powerlifting. “I never did stretch growing up and I never stretched when I powerlifted and that led to a lot of injuries. Sarah Palmer, 2008-09 Gatorade Hawaii Girls Volleyball Player of the Year

Congratulations to Sarah Palmer for being recognized as the 2008-09 Gatorade Hawaii girls volleyball player of the year. Sarah, a junior outside hitter for Hawaii Baptist Academy, helped to guide her team to their second consecutive Division II state title. She was also recently honored as the Star-Bulletin’s state volleyball player of the year. The Gatorade State Players of the Year are selected on the basis of outstanding athletic excellence accompanied by high standards of academic achievement and exemplary personal character demonstrated on and off the field. Sarah has verbally committed to the University of Texas.
All-State Girls Volleyball Selections

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin announced their 2008 All-State/Fab 15 Girls Volleyball Selections. Congratulations to Sarah Palmer, a junior outside hitter for the Hawaii Baptist Academy Girls Volleyball team for being voted the 2008 Player of the Year. Sarah recently gave a verbal commitment to play setter/libero for the University of Texas.
Also recognized in the Star-Bulletin Fab 15 were Candace Soares, a senior outside hitter for Mililani High School and I’isha Keliikoa, a senior outside hitter for Iolani School. Both are members of the Jammers Volleyball Club and were coached by Tanya Fuamatu-Anderson.
Honorable Mention selections to the Star-Bulletin Fab 15 were Malie Yoon, a junior setter for Iolani School, Brianna Lovett, a junior outside hitter/middle blocker for Hawaii Baptist Academy, and Elissa Ji, a senior outside hitter for Maryknoll.
Congratulations to all of our athletes who were recognized for their outstanding play!
